In preparation for joining year 4, pupils worked hard over their summer holidays undertaking an independent homework project on Ancient Greece. Miss Hignett was delighted with their wonderful achievements.
Reception had a vsiit from the Horwich fire crew who brought along their amazing fire engine. The children loved learning about the engine, had to shield their ears when they heard the siren and especially enjoyed hosing down the car park!! Thank you to the fire crew team; they were brilliant.
As part of our comprehensive curriculum, we place great importance on trips outside of school to broaden our pupils’ learning experience; and what amazing fun they are too! This week Year 2 went to Blackpool Zoo. They had a ‘whale’ of a time seeing a sea lion display, watching the penquins and lots of ’monkey’ business, and were amazed at the height of the giraffes!
Every class embraced the celebrations to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. From watching the live broadcast from Windsor Castle, to enacting ’Her Highness’s Royal Duties’ , all the pupils from Reception through to Year 6 learnt lots of new and interesting facts about the Queen and her reign, including her role as a mechanic during World War 2.
Year 2 have been studying geography; learning about the world’s continents and oceans, earth and animals that live in hot and cold countries. Mrs Wood is very impressed with their amazing work.

2016 is the Year of the Monkey.
We looked at the differences between our houses, schools and the way people live during our topic about Africa. We learnt that there are 7 continents – Europe, Asia, Australasia, Africa, Antarctica, North America and South America. We live in Europe.
